The programme "Refugees Welcome" was established at the University of Bayreuth in Winter Semester 2015/16. This page is designed to provide an overview of what has already taken place as part of the project. It is also meant to provide a platform for participating refugees to introduce themselves and tell their stories.

Aside from the language courses, the supporting programme represents another key component of the Refugees Welcome programme. This includes a buddy and language mentoring programme, sport activities, and a range of student initiatives. The University of Bayreuth hosted another Summer University on its campus in the summer of 2016. A total of 230 participants (including many refugees in the region) from 40 countries took part in the Refugees Welcome initiatives at the Summer University. In the past two years, many people have found refuge in Germany. Most of them fled the civil war in Syria that has been going on for the past five years. The University of Bayreuth supports refugees with intensive preparatory German language courses and helps them to integrate into life on campus and in Germany. Bürger von hier, da und dort – this is the slogan of a three-year pilot project for a museum education programme carried out by Bayreuth's Museum of Art and various partners in the town of Bayreuth. One such partner is the "Refugees Welcome" programme at the University, which fosters the integration of refugees by way of university education and intensive German language courses to help them prepare for their studies in Germany. ...more
