Opportunities for refugees interested in studying

Target group

Refugees who would like to study in Germany in the future and have a recognized higher education entrance qualification (HZB, Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) for studying at German Universities.

  • Higher education entrance qualification (HZB)
    If you wish to study at one of the Germany’s universities, you will need an university entrance qualification (called in German HZB, Hochschulzugangsberechtigung). In the Anabin database  or in the DAAD admissions database , you can check whether your foreign degree allows you to access higher education in Germany.
  • Residence status
    Asylum-seekers, asylum applicants, recognized asylum, persons who have toleration status
  • At least level A2 in German as a foreign language.

  • Propaedeutic semester (level: C1)
    Course content: German in academic contexts, introductory events and lectures of the desired courses of studies, writing training, etc. 12-23 teaching units per week.
  • German courses at the Language Centre (levels A1 to C1 possible)
    Course duration: April - July or October – February
    Course duration: 2-4 hours per course per week
    Note: There is no guarantee of a place on the course; the result of the course selection will be announced in the first week of the course. After passing the final exam, participants will receive a transcript of records from the university instead of a certificate.

Refugees who have a higher education entrance qualification (HZB) and are interested in our German courses can apply at any time for a place on the waiting list.

1. Please fill out our online application form.

2. Send us the following required documents to integra@uni-bayreuth.de by 15. March for the summer semester or by 15. September for the winter semester: 

  • Higher education entrance qualification
    This includes the secondary school leaving certificate (e.g. A-levels, high school diploma) and higher education degree (e.g., university degree). Please send us all your certificates in the original language along with a German translation.
  • Proof of refugee status, for example, your residence permit
  • Proof of German language proficiency

Please be sure to send us the documents in PDF format. Only then can an evaluation be made.

As soon as these steps have been completed and the application has been submitted, your application and certificates will be reviewed. Reviewing the certificates can take a while. We will contact you with the outcome as soon as it is available.
